- Dr. Estill L. Caudill Jr. , 82, Pine Hill Road Extension, Elizabethton, died Monday evening, March 1, 1999, at his residence following a brief illness. Dr. Caudill was a native of Narrows, Va., and the son of the late Dr. E.L. Caudill Sr. and Flora Weatherly Caudill. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Bolton Caudill, October 12, 1987
Dr. Caudill graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1941. Following his internship, he entered the U.S. Army to serve during World War II. During World War II, Dr. Caudill was in the D Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the River Rhine. He was a member of the 101st Airborne and the 82nd Airborne. At the end of World War II, Dr. Caudill returned to Elizabethton and entered into the practice of family medicine. He had served as president of the Tennessee Academy of General Practice, the Tennessee State Board of Registration in Medicine, was the Carter County Medical Examiner for many years, and served as Medical Director of Beaunit Fibers until his retirement. Dr. Caudill was a member and past president of the Elizabethton Rotary Club, a former director of Citizens Bank, and a charter director of Security Federal Savings Bank. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dr. E.L. Caudill III, Manchester, Mass.; two daughters, Anne Clifton Lewis, Guilford, Conn., and Lucy Austin, Ooltewah, Tenn.; a brother, Julian Caudill, Elizabethton; and a sister, Mary Daniel Weiss, Alexandria, Va. Six grandchildren also survive.
