- Coolidge Whittington, 81, of Whittington Lane, Newland died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his residence. A native of Carter County, TN, he was a son of the late Claude and Sarah Fields Whittington. He was a Shrubberyman and member of God's House of Worship in Banner Elk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Norwood Whittington; a son, Danny Wayne Whittington; brothers, Buster Fields, Hardin and Charlie Whittington; sisters, Stella Thompson, Alice Stutzman, and Emma Baldwin. He is survived by his daughters, Janice Arnett, and her husband, Wayne, of Newland, Diane Fay, and her husband, Robert, of Newland; son, Larry Whittington, and his wife, Janet, of Newland; granddaughter, Jennifer Arnett McGee, and her husband, Shane, of Greenville, TN; grandson, Stephen Whittington, and his wife, Lisa, of Newland; special Great Grandchildren: Montana "Bugsy", Vigentte "Spike", and Yvette Fay, Tyler, Hunter, Ashley, and Arielle Whittington. Funeral services for Coolidge Whittington will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the Taylor's Chapel Cemetery.
