- Clara Jeanette Hartley White, age 92, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Watauga Medical Center. She was born May 12, 1921 in Carter County to the late John A. Hartley and Ruth Ellen Smith Hartley. In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Clark B. White; sister, Charlotte R. Hartley; and a brother, Sherman Hartley.
Clara was a graduate of Hampton High School. She and her husband, Clark, moved to Johnson County when construction of Watauga Dam began. Clara worked in special education for several years for the Johnson County School System. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Clara is survived by her daughters, Nancy White Tolliver and husband Kenneth of Mountain City, Jeanetta White Webster and husband Michael of Oklahoma City, OK and Linda White Green and husband Clifford of Morristown, TN; grandchildren, Ken Tolliver, Julie Tolliver, Anna Sams, Carol Poore, Sarah Green and Rebecca Yager; great grandchildren, Tyler Antrican, Sheldon Brooks and Nate Sams; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service following at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Pallbearers were sons-in-law and grandsons, Kenneth Tolliver, Ken Tolliver, Clifford Green, Michael Webster, Sheldon Brooks, Tyler Antrican, Nate Sams and Wally Isham. The graveside service and interment were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery in Hampton, Tennessee.
