- Mildred "Granny" Carpenter, age 97, of Marion, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at Autumn Care of Marion, N.C.
Born in McDowell County to the late O. G. Wiseman and Maggie Cresawn Wiseman, she was a retired Lunchroom Manager at North Cove School with the McDowell County School System.
The oldest of nine children, she was a lifelong resident of McDowell County and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
She was noted for cooking fried apple pies, rolls, and a number of other delicious foods.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Carpenter, Sr.; one son, Robert Lee Carpenter, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Reavis Carpenter; 3 infant grandchildren; 2 brothers, O. G. Wiseman, Jr. and Alvin Wiseman; and 2 sisters, Edna Wiseman Duncan and Virginia Wiseman Smith.
Surviving are many family members and friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Concord United Methodist Church at 11 AM with the Rev. Fred Reese officiating.
Burial will follow at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Avery County, NC.
