- JOHNSON CITY - Maynard McCoy Crowe, 87, Johnson City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 4, 2019 at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Crowe was born November 25, 1931 in Sullivan County to the late Goldie Reece Crowe and Carmel Crump Crowe.
He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church.
Maynard was a 1952 graduate of Boones Creek High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball all four years and ran track. He played semi-pro baseball.
Mr. Crowe was involved with sports for most of his life; either playing, officiating, selling tickets, or as a spectator. He started his officiating career in 1961 where he called games for the TSSAA and the Johnson City Park and Recreation where he worked for 35 years in many capacities.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Chinouth Crowe; his parents; brother, Carl Crowe and sister Maye Crowe.
Maynard is survived by his three children; Donna Ellen Crowe; Steven Maynard Crowe and wife, Carol; and Ann Noel Crowe. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Shannon Maddox and husband, Nick (Ansley, Ellen and Hadley); Brandon Crowe and wife, Rebekah (Cainan, Corban and Cooper); Martin Tingelhoff and wife, Bethany (Ethan, Asher and Harper); Nicholas Crowe and wife, Micah (Brooklyn, Leighton and Marley); Amanda Crowe; Alec Tingelhoff and Austin Tingelhoff. Sister: Rhea Crowe Calloway and husband, Joel; Sister-in-Law: Susanne Wacks Chinouth. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
His Granddaughter, Amanda Crowe has graciously been his full time Caregiver for the past eleven months.
Pallbearers are Benjamin Buckner, J.D. Feathers, Randy Collins, Fonzo Gillespie, JD Slagle, Leon Henley, Brian Taylor, Matt Carmichael, Scott Jenkins, James Ellis, Bill Greer, and grandsons and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, TN. Pastor Curtis Hurt will be officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. at Highland Church Cemetery, 485 Highland Church Road, Johnson City, TN 37615.
