- The son of the late Lon H. and Evelyn Chambers Brumit. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jack H. Brumit, in 1969.
Mr. Brumit was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on the USS New Mexico and received two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star and other medals.
Mr. Brumit was retired as a Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency Officer and was named "Conservationist of the Year" in 1974. He was Coroner for Carter County for 17 years. He was a member, deacon and elder of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, where he also served as Minister of Junior Church for 14 years.
He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and the Shriner's Oriental Band, and was a former Boy Scout Leader. He helped organize and was a Charter Member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He had at one time a Hunting Program for WBEJ Radio and wrote the "Outdoor Roundup" for the Elizabethton Star.
Funeral services for Billy Jack Brumit, 77, were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home.
Graveside services and interment were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2003 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166.
