- Robert "Tense" Whitehead, 85, of Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Robert was born in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Garfield and Ethel Lacy Whitehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Whitehead, Jack Whitehead, William Whitehead and J.D. Whitehead, and one sister, Ivalee Whitehead.
Robert was a farmer and loved gardening, being outdoors, working and loved farming.
Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Jessie J. Whitehead and wife Patsy of Hampton and Richard Whitehead and wife Erlene of Stoney Creek in Elizabethton, and two sisters-in-law, Sue Whitehead of Butler, Tenn., and Ellen Whitehead of Pennsylvania. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Robert "Tense" Whitehead will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his brother at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 3, in the Bennett Cemetery on Dennis Cove Road in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
