- Rod "Big Lou" Jenkins, 69, 114 Brittany Drive, Elizabethton, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following a brief illness.
Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong resident of Carter County and a son of the late Rod Jenkins Sr. and Molly Matherly Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tom Jenkins, and a sister, Ethel Hyder.
Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired employee of Inland Container Corporation with 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Barnett Jenkins, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary W. and Lisa Jenkins, Elizabethton; a daughter, Joyce "Joy" Holtsclaw, Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Frankie Odom, Elizabethton; and four grandchildren, Jessica Jenkins, Lance Jenkins and Logan Jenkins, all of Elizabethton, and Taylor Holtsclaw, Huntsville, Ala. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
JENKINS -- A graveside service for Rod "Big Lou" Jenkins, 69, 114 Brittany Drive, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, February 17, 2000, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Jenkins, Tommy Jenkins, Finley Jenkins, Kevin Avery, Troy Whitehead, Patrick Hyder and Tim Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Little, George Greene Jr., George McNeil, Jimmy Greenwell and Employees of Inland Container. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
