- Pansy Garland McKinney, age 87 of Carters Ridge Rd Spruce Pine, NC passed away January 9, 2011 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC. She was a Native of Mitchell County, NC and the daughter of the late Andrew and Nettie Woody Garland. She attended Asheville Beauty School and was the owner and operator of Pansys Beauty Nook fo 30 years. After retirement she worked at Spruce Pine Library, she was also the first WIC interviewer with the Mitchell County Health Department.
Survivors include; daughters, Vivian Mann and husband Jerry, and Carolyn Burleson and husband Earl, all of Spruce Pine, NC, three grandchildren, Richard Vance Mann, Jessica Duncan, and Brandon Burleson, four great grandchildren, Austin Duncan, Emily Duncan, Isaac Mann, and Francesca Mann.
She was preceded in death by her husband R. H. McKinney, sisters, Lockie Masters, and Geneva Espey, brothers, Luther, Mack, Jess, Frank, Richmond, Ike, Geter, and Monroe Garland.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14 2011 at 3:00PM in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home with Larry Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bakersville Memorial Cemetery.
