- Marie Sliger Blankenship, 87, of Jonesborough, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City, after an extended illness.
She was a native of Washington County and was a daughter of the late Willard and Lora Dunn Sliger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Blankenship; one granddaughter, Kristi Rice; one grandson, Justin Blankenship; one great-grandson, Jackson Blankenship; two sisters, Francis Byers and Wanda Bitner; and one brother, Roy Sliger.
She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Mayberry Community Church. She was retired from Johnson City Medical Center.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed sewing and going to church as long as her health allowed.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Rice of Jonesborough; one son, Larry Blankenship and his wife, Myra, of Johnson City; her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Nina," Jeff Rice and his wife, Tiffany, Matt Blankenship and his wife, Angie, and Larae Graves and her husband, Phil; great-grandchildren, Emma Claire and Kaylin Blankenship, Raegan and Wyatt Graves and Gage and Sydnee Duncan; one brother, Orval Sliger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of NHC Healthcare for the loving care provided and to Caris Hospice for their care and support.
Funeral services were 8 p.m. Monday at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Dykes and Pastor Jake Herron officiating. Burial was 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mayberry-Vincent Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jeff Rice, Matt Blankenship and Phil Graves, and nephews, Rick Blankenship, Jerry Bitner, Mike Ferguson, Danny Adams and Wallace Hylton.
