- Mrs. Dovie Gertrude Street Gouge, 97, Johnson City, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Grover and Bessie Holtsclaw Street. Mrs. Gouge was a long-time member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church and the Silver Bells Sunday School Class. She had served as custodian of the church for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Gouge; a granddaughter, April Wood; and by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Norma Jean Blaylock, Stella and Clarence Burleson, Mildred and Paul Wood, Shirley and William Swink and Sonya and Gary Rice, all of Johnson City, Edna and Robert Massey, Unicoi, and Geraldine and John Cansler, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son and very special daughter-in-law, Donald and Patsy Gouge, Johnson City; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Gouge will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. James Archer and the Rev. William McDaniel officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in Roselawn Memorial Park. Gary Rice and Terry Paul Wood will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons-in-law and her church family. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
