- MOUNTAIN CITY - Walter Atlee" Jack" Lowe, Sr., 91, of 947 Slabtown Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday November 21, 2018, at the Lakebridge Health Care Center of Johnson City, TN.
Jack was born on August 27, 1927, in Carter County, TN to the late Henry Edgar Lowe, Sr. and Florence Jordan Lowe. Jack was also predeceased in death by his wife Sommai Lowe and stepfather Lionel L.D. Lowe as well as his brother Henry E. Lowe, Jr.
Mr. Lowe was a true Southern gentleman who loved his country. He served 27 years combined in the TN Guard, US Navy, and US Air Force. He entered the Navy at the ripe age of 17, serving as a radar man during WWII and participated in the A-bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. He became a Shellback and member of the Order of the Neptune after crossing the equator on a ship. He continued his service during the Vietnam War as a Master Sargant in the US Air Force, earning a Bronze Star and serving in the National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP) under the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
He loved gardening and collecting Oscar winning movies as well as supporting his football teams, the Washington Redskins and the Tennessee Volunteers. Jack was a Graduate of Johnson County High School.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters; Cat-Thee Dingus and husband Chris, Kingsport, TN and Deborah Sword and husband Ronnie, Oviedo, FL; a son, Walter 'Dub' Lowe and wife Louise, Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Catelin Dingus, Katherine Sword, and Ron Sword; his former spouse and friend Mary Lou Hajducsek.
The family of Jack Lowe would like to thank Dr. David Jones, the VA Hospital at Mountain Home, Lakebridge Health Care Center, and Visiting Angels, especially Sara Reece.
Funeral Services for Walter Atlee 'Jack' Lowe Sr. will be conducted at 6pm Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the Charles B. Hux Chapel of Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Chaplin Dwight McPherson to officiate. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 6pm prior to the funeral service.
Graveside service with Military Honors Accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held at 11am Monday, November 26, 2018, in the Lowe Cemetery on Slabtown Road.
