- Floyd Henry Sparks, 87, 162 Blakemore Circle, Johnson City passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Floyd Estel Sparks and Lillie Mashburn Sparks. Mr. Sparks was retired from Empire Furniture where he had worked for 45 years. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Jonesborough. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Hattie Hill Sparks in 2013; three brothers, Don, Mack and Clyde Sparks; two sisters, Dorothy Neal and Mildred Brown; a grandson, Robert L. Sparks Jr.; and a step-son, George Hays;
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Ann Smith and husband, Marcas of Jonesborough; a son, Robert Lynn Sparks and wife, Mary of Johnson City; a brother, Hartsell Sparks and wife, Virgie of Johnson City; two sisters, Marie Brown and husband, Hoot of Telford and Patsy Keys of Jonesborough; a step-son, Dan Hays and wife, Janet of Jonesborough; three step-daughters, Peggy Scalf and husband, Kenneth of Missouri, Patricia McKamey and husband, Cleo of Rocky Top, TN and Sandra Clouse of Johnson City; grandchildren, Mark Smith, Jennifer Mowdy, Brian Sparks and wife, Tasha, Eric L. Sparks and wife, Ashley, Aaron Myers, Dana Hilton and Ryan Winterroth; great-grandchildren, Denver Smith, Dylan Smith, Logan Mowdy and Joshua Carr: a great-great grandson, Lincoln Smith. Also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Sparks will be conducted at 6:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Perry Cleek officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Barnett Cemetery off Sinking Creek Road in Johnson City.
