- Vickie R. Hughes, 71, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and her daughter Tiffany, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Vickie was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Ivan and Lucy Heaton Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tiffany Holdren, and a sister, Bobbie McKinney.
Vickie was a cook and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. She liked to watch westerns, reading and loved her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Tabby Hampton of Roan Mountain; four granddaughters, Payton Johnson, Madelyn Johnson and Madison Johnson, all of Roan Mountain, and their father Johnny, and Chloe Holdren and her father John of Newland; and two sisters, Donna Gray and husband Perry of Roan Mountain and Diana Marshall of Morristown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Vickie R. Hughes will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 18, in the Miller Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Tenn., with Rev. Randy English officiating. Mr. Aaron Gray will provide a eulogy. Special singing will be provided at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Monday. The family would like to especially thank the ICU Staff and Megan Vaught for their excellent care and kindness during this difficult time.
