- Mr. and Mrs. Ben S. Miller, Harrisonburg R4, have returned to their home after being called to Jonesboro, Tenn., by the death of her father, W. P. Diehl. He died Wednesday and funeral services were held Friday.
Mr. Diehl was 82 years old and was born near Jonesboro where he spent his entire life. He was united with the Church of the Brethren at the age of 14 years and had served as a deacon for a number of years.
He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Lydia S. Showalter, of Rockingham County. She died April 20, 1904.
To this union were born three children, Capt Walter S. Diehl, U. S. Navy; Master Sgt. Edwin S. Diehl, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a retired army man, and Mrs. Ben S. Miller, Harrisonburg.
On May 30, 1906, Mr. Diehl was married to Miss Alice E. Stover, Jonesboro, Tenn. She survives with one son, William P. Diehl, Jonesboro. Also surviving are two brothers, George Diehl, Rocky Ford, Co., Albert Diehl, Jonesboro; and a sister Mrs. Ada E. Duncan, Memphis; and seven grandchildren.
After a year's illness, Mr. Diehl died on the 56th anniversary of his first marriage. He taught school in Washington County, Tenn., for a number of years and in recent years operated a warehouse. He was at one time mayor of Jonesboro. He was a man of good nature and was unusually kind and he possessed a keen sense of humor. He leaves a wide circle of friends in Virginia and Tennessee.
