- Opal June Mathis, 77, 266 Oliver Edwards Road, Jonesborough, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Mathis was born July 7, 1934 in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Nat Clint and Gladys Ina Tucker Casey.
Survivors include three sons: Ricky Mathis and wife, Jill, Log Cabin Circle, Va., Allen Mathis and Lynn Mathis, both of the home; one daughter: Debbie Gardner and husband, Edward, Burlington, North Carolina; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; seven brothers: Bernie Casey and wife, Betty, Carlos Casey and wife, Betty, all of Jonesborough, Bobby Casey and wife, Marsha, Richard Casey and wife, Candy, Johnny Casey, Ronnie Casey and wife, Brenda, David Casey and wife, Brenda; and one sister: Linda Tolley, all of Erwin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive as well as special close friends: Mary Street and Jewel Rice.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Robert Ledford Funeral Home with the Rev. Otis Banks officiating. Special piano music was provided by Mrs. Pearl Banks and special vocal selections by the Embreeville Missionary Baptist Church Quartet.
Pallbearers were Mackey Casey, Robbie Casey, Jerrett Casey, Clint Casey, Eric Casey, and Deryl Parnell.
The committal service for Mrs. Mathis will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m., in Bumpus Cove Cemetery.
