- Clarence Conley Johnson, age 88, of 684 Buck Hill Road, Newland, N.C. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at The Cranberry House.
He was preceded in death by his wife Okla Cole Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a retired carpenter and had worked on hundreds of homes and projects including Crossnore Chapel, Land of Oz and Avery County High School. He also taught Sunday school for a number of years. He always stayed busy and enjoyed mowing his yard and painting anything.
He was the last sibling of 12 children born to the late Rufus and Zelphia Ashley Johnson of Squirrel Creek.
He was a member of Big Meadows Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Betty Johnson of Holden Beach and a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tom Aldridge of Buck Hill; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be conducted at 8 p. m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008 from the Big Meadows Baptist Church with Pastor Joshua Calvert officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be held at 10 a. m. on Friday in the Ashley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doyle Hutcheson, Steve Calloway, Ryan Hutcheson, Tim Singleton, Donnie Benfield and Chuck Walker.
