- Lockett Harris Carden, 74, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, from his residence. Lockett was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Walter and Jane Nidiffer Carden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Carden and Ray Carden; two sisters, Marie Wilson and Ola Pearl Williams; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Sue Carden.
Lockett retired from Mapes Piano String, where he retired after 45 years. He was a born again Christian member of Moores Chapel Freewill Baptist Church for 48 years. He lived and served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and loved and cherished his wife, Diana, for 52 years and all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, working on cars and small engines and doing carpentry work in his home.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Diana Ward Carden, of the home; his daughters, Janie Peters and husband Dennis, and Tammy Lyons and husband Tim; a son, Jerry Carden and wife Deanna; five grandchildren, Tamra Bare and husband Chris, Ashley Waters, T.J. Lyons and wife Heather, Whitney Carden and Jerry Carden Jr. and fiancée, Natasha Stout; six great-grandchildren, Chloe, Ava, Abbi, Caden, Gracie, Avery and Addyln; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Greene and husband Stanley, and Charlotte Taylor and husband T.N.; two brothers, Stanley Carden and Arthur Carden and wife Sue; two aunts, Anna Mae Nidiffer Campbell and Mary Evelyne Carden Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Lockett Harris Carden will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, November 9, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Earnest Garland and Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, in the Garland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Arthur Carden, Gary Carden, Stacy Carden, David Ward, Bo Ensor, Fuzz Ensor, David Rutter and Bill Carden. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Peters, Tim Lyons, T.J. Lyons, Jerry Carden Jr., Josh Ensor, Stanley Carden, Chris Bare, Jerry Wilson, Larry Wilson, Jimmy Ward and Lynn Ward.
