- BARRY, ALVIN Y. SHADY VALLEY, TN -- Alvin Y. Barry, 78, of 2579 Highway 133, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. He was a native of Shady Valley and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for the TVA for several years before becoming a minister. He ministered in several Church of Christ churches in the area. He was a member of the Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley. He is survived by his wife, Sue Barry; one daughter, Linda Miller of West Jefferson, NC; one son, Tony Barry of Shady Valley; one sister, Georgia Bentley of Shady Valley; one brother, R.C. Barry of Bristol, TN.; four grandchildren, Anthony, Greg, Matt and Kerry; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Milton Mathers, Mr. Will Johnson and Mr. Mark Miller, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in Blevins Cemetery, Shady Valley. Pallbearers will be Olan Bentley, Harry Bentley, Bill Manuel, Dennis Honaker, Ed Seals, Roger Blevins and Steve Hicks. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the family. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral service at Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus, VA, or at any time at the residence.
