- Robert Turbyfill - ELIZABETHTON
Robert L. Turbyfill, age 92, of 114 West E Street, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 24, 2008, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness.
Robert was a native of Avery County, NC, but had spent the majority of his life in Elizabethton. He was a son of the late Joe and Ida Keller Turbyfill.
Mr. Turbyfill was the owner/operator of the Black & White Cab Company and was a former employee of both Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home and Tetrick Funeral Home. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F&AM and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Mr. Turbyfill was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Potter Turbyfill (7/28/1973); six brothers, Arthur, Gentry, Dallas, Hilton, Roscoe, and Barney Turbyfill; and three sisters, Ines Puckett, Dorothy O'Quinn, and Della Phipps.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jean Turbyfill, Elizabethton; three sons, Mitchell Turbyfill, Robert Charles Turbyfill and Gerald Turbyfill, all of Elizabethton; a brother, Doyle Turbyfill and his wife, Muriel, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Robin Turbyfill Peters, Piney Flats, Bethany Turbyfill, Elizabethton, Mitchell Booker, CA, Danny Baynes, NC, and Denise Sherwood, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Carson Peters, Piney Flats, and Haley Turbyfill, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A candlelight funeral service for Mr. Robert L. Turbyfill will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 27, 2008, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Trilla Little, organist.
Interment will follow Saturday in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 49. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Peters, Dean Turbyfill, Teddy Turbyfill, Joe Jimmy Turbyfill, Bill Turbyfill, Tom Turbyfill, Gene Waters, Roger Hamm, Ray O'Quinn and Herman O'Quinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Turbyfill, George Turbyfill, Jake Tester, Norman Peters, Emery Cordell, Waymon Carrier, John L. Bowers, Arthur Turbyfill Jr., Jimmy McKinney, Harry Absher and L.B. Phipps.
