- FLAG POND - James Howard "Jim" Guinn, age 95, Flag Pond, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at The Waters of Johnson City. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Blain and Zora Tilson Guinn.
Mr. Guinn was a member of Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church. He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during WWII. Mr. Guinn was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal.
He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Mr. Guinn retired from teaching for the Unicoi County School System after thirty-seven years of service.
He was a fifty year member of Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM. Mr. Guinn was an avid outdoors-man. He loved to hunt, camp, fish and cook.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Lee Guinn on December 23, 2005; one son, Larry Guinn; one brother, Dwight L. Guinn; five sisters: Dean Treadway, Dot Corn, Eva Martin, Kathleen Hoyle and Rita Hoyle.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons: James Marvin Guinn (Judith), Muscle Shoals, AL, Roger Dale Guinn, Flag Pond and Gary Guinn, Erwin; one sister, Elouise Shell, Erwin; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Corn, Eddie Corn, Teddy Hoyle, David Hoyle, Jerry Hoyle and Doug Piercy.
