- Patricia Ann Hardin Rutter, age 68, 148 Rutter Lane, Erwin, passed away peacefully at 8:50 pm Saturday, June 9, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Grady and Sarah Waldrop Hardin. Mrs. Rutter received her Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Education degree from East Tennessee State University. She was a teacher for twenty three years at Evans Elementary School and Love Chapel Elementary School. Mrs. Rutter was a Career Ladder III Teacher, has been listed in the Who's Who in American Teachers four times, was state finalist in Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, received the Tennessee Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award, and was Conservation Educator for Tennessee.
She was a member of the Unicoi-Erwin Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 276, Friends of the Library, Kappa Delta PI, the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. Mrs. Rutter was an honorary member of Maranatha Tabernacle.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Dale Rutter in 1962, and son, Ira Craig Rutter, on August 7, 2008.
Mrs. Rutter is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Ira "Pete" Rutter; a daughter: Danielle Britt and husband Benjamin; three grandchildren: Jaxson Treadway, Jeffery Rutter and Liam Rutter; one brother: Buddy Hardin and wife Shirley; two sisters: Wilma Hughes, and Shelia Honeycutt and husband Don, all of Erwin; several nieces and nephews. Many friends including special friends: Harley and Kathy Bailey, Johnson City.
Funeral service for Patricia Ann Rutter will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend E. L. Wheeler will officiate.
Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. Inez Chandler will provide organ music.
Active pallbearers will be Benjamin Britt, Michael Hardin, Les Honeycutt, Joe Richardson, Dallas Lloyd, and Chris Godsey.
The committal service will be held Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012, at 10:00 am in Evergreen Cemetery.
