- ERWIN - Faye J. Miller, age 90, of 2160 Chestoa Pike, Erwin, passed away at her residence Monday, July 23, 2018.
She was a native of Bee Log, NC and a daughter of the late Virgil and Stella Howard Johnson. Faye graduated from Bee Log School where she was pitcher of the softball team, center forward of the basketball team, and valedictorian of her class. She attended Western Carolina University. Faye then began teaching in the Lost Cove at a one room school house, where she met her future husband, Ulis Miller. Faye was one of the first original employees of Morrill Motors at Shallow Ford. She was an office/librarian assistant at Unicoi County Middle School for several years. Faye was a substitute teacher until she was in her eighties.
In 1949 Faye and Ulis married. She was faithful, very active and supportive in her role as a pastor's wife. She was a Sunday School teacher and assisted with Bible School in numerous churches where Ulis was the pastor. Faye was an excellent caregiver to her brother for fifty-two years.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Reverend Ulis Miller on June 29, 2015; one sister, Monnie Mae Bailey; one brother, James Johnson.
Faye leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter, Teresa Kay Bowman and husband, Doug, Erwin; two granddaughters: Julia Bowman Elliot and husband, Neal, Unicoi and Lindsay Bowman, Erwin; two sisters: Lena Edwards, Bee Log, NC, Christine Wilson and husband, Larry, Burnsville, NC; two brothers: Ray Johnson and wife, Gladys, Jonesborough, Fletcher Johnson of the home; one half-sister, Joann McCurry and husband, Robert, Bee Log, NC; two sisters-in-law Hazel Miller, Erwin, Norma Stines, Elizabethton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Paul Bennett and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Pallbearers will be Doug Bowman, Neal Elliott, Jody Cox, and Alvin Murphy. Entombment service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday in the Evergreen Mausoleum.
