- BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Thomas Eugene "Gene" Morrell, age 83, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Beulah Mae Thomas Morrell; brother, Charles E. Morrell; and two sisters, Suetta Larkin and Helen DeVault.
Gene retired as a switchman from United Telephone Company and was also a retired farmer. He was an active member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church and a member for 58 years of Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge No. 444, 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and a 50-year member of the Bluff City Chapter 414 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Frances King Morrell; one daughter, Teresa M. Wright and husband James of Bluff City; one sister, Edna Rasar of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, Katie Wright; one grandson, Matthew Wright; several nieces and nephews; and many many friends.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew E. Spence officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery conducted by the Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge No. 444.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Morrell, Sonny Rasar, Raymond Morrell, Pete Earhart, Dean Torbett and Jerry Simerly. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Harold Alison, Dr. Craig Lapham and Sidney Riley.
