- CLEWISTON, FL - Dorothy Jackson Whitehead passed away to her heavenly home on July 25th, 2018 at Hendry Regional Medical Center in Clewiston, Florida.
Mrs. Whitehead was born on April 19, 1929 in Greene County, Tennessee to her parents Charlie and Cora Morrison Jackson. She was a graduate of Baileyton High School and Greeneville School of Commerce. She married Joseph Dawson Whitehead on September 2, 1949. The Whitehead's moved to Johnson City where J.D. worked for the Trailways Bus Company and Dorothy was a homemaker and retired Florist. They lived at 710 Lincoln Avenue in Johnson City.
Mrs. Whitehead was a lifetime member of the Tennessee Parent-Teachers Association and Charter Member over fifty years of Clark Street Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Clewiston when she retired, being active in the Sunday School and Choir programs at both churches. She and her husband retired to Clewiston, Florida in 1987.
Mrs. Whitehead is survived by: her son, Joe (Sassy) of Clewiston, Florida; grandchildren, Melissa Whitehead Carter (Josh) and Joshua; and two great grandchildren, Jaxson Reid Carter (age 3) and Kaison Joe Carter (age 1), all from Clewiston, Florida. Dorothy was also survived by: her brothers, Norman Jackson from Fall Branch, TN and Mike Jackson from Greeneville, TN. She had two special, loving sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Whitehead and Alma Jackson, both from Greeneville, TN. Dorothy had many nieces and nephews, Jan Kiker (Eric) from Greeneville, TN, Carolyn Whitehead Carrier from Bristol, TN, Keith McAmis (Leslie) From Alcoa, TN, Jason Jackson (Kristi) from Cleveland, TN, and Terry Smith (Judy) from Savannah, GA.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, J.D. (2007); son, Jeffrey Lynn (1972); her mother and father; two brothers, Paul Jackson and Alfred Jackson; and two sisters, Ruby Smith and Billie Jo McAmis.
The family of Mrs. Whitehead will receive friends from 11 AM to 12 PM Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Morris-Baker. The funeral service will follow at 12 PM. Family and friends are asked to meet at Roselawn Memory Gardens immediately following for the committal service. All friends and family are welcome to attend to celebrate Mrs. Whitehead's wonderful life!
