- Nelta Gail Buffington, 76, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Marietta, Ga., passed away at home in Port Orange after a 2-1/2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Gail was the middle daughter of Millard Otis Fair and Ella Mae Leach Fair, growing up in Gap Creek, Elizabethton, Tenn., with her sisters, Carolyn Leonard Cowan and June Turbyfield. She graduated in 1960 from Happy Valley High School.
Gail married Ed Williams Jr. and moved to Cocoa, Fla., where they adopted their daughter, Angela Denise Williams Brett. Gail would later marry Alton D. Buffington in Marietta, Ga. Gail worked for over 20 years for Dr. James Kiley as the bookkeeper until retiring in 2006. She was a member of Olive Springs Baptist Church where she was an active singer with the Sweet Spirit group and helping with VBS and many other activities at the church. Gail moved to Port Orange, Fla., to live with her daughter Angela, son-in-law Randy and grandson Edwin in 2017. Gail always had a smile on her face and showed others God's word through her daily actions.
She is survived by daughter, Angela (Williams) Brett; sister, June Turbyfield; grandson, Edwin Brett; two nieces, Kimberly Withka and Connie Johnson; nephew, Tom Turbyfield; and many close friends and church family.
A celebration service will be held at Olive Springs Baptist Church, 1528 Austell Road, Marietta, GA 30008 on September 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Dr. Randy Cheek will lead the services and Doug Hines will lead music along with special music by Sweet Spirit singers.
