- Mrs. Nancy Benfield, 87, died Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ed Sneed of Marion, after a long illness.
She was a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Elias Stamey and was the oldest living member of Big Meadows Baptist Church. She was married to Jim Benfield in 1892. He died in 1919.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Sneed are another daughter, Mrs. Ulysses S. Goforth of Newland, a son Waits Benfield of Newland, a half-sister, Mrs. Laura Wheelon of Marion, and a half-brother, Clayton Stamey of Jonas Ridge, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Big Meadows Baptist Church Sunday.
