- MOUNTAIN CITY - Mary Arney Jeter, age 81, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 following an extended illness.
She was born in Neva, TN to the late Kermit Arney and Una Dugger Arney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Wayne Arney; brothers-in-law, Steve Robbins and Jerry Dugger.
Mary was a member of Vaughts Gap Baptist Church. She loved her family, church family and community and was always willing to help others. Her passion was being outside working in her garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family and neighbors. Mary was a graduate of ETSU where she graduated with a degree in education. She loved children and taught Kindergarten for 15 years.
Mary was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 59 ½ years, Nelson Jeter; sons, Nelson Jeter Jr., and Nathan Jeter and wife Robin; grandchildren, Kathryn Jeter and Joshua Jeter; sister, Martha Dugger (and the late Jerry), Belle Cable and husband Ellis and Ruth Robbins (and the late Steve); brother, Glenn Arney and wife Elena; sister-in-law, Ida Lee Arney (and the late Wayne); several nieces and nephews and her church family.
The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow with Pastor Chuck Morefield officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Mast Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Jeter, Joshua Jeter, Dwayne Arney, Ellis Cable, Dillion McQueen and Danny Eller.
