- William B. Palmer, 84, 175 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Palmer was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Felix and Bertha Oaks Palmer. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Palmer and Lawrence Palmer, and three grandchildren, Jamie, Todd and C.S.
Mr. Palmer was a member of Prayer Tabernacle Church and was retired from North American Rayon Corporation.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wilson Palmer, of the home; a daughter, Clairece Powell, Roan Mountain; four sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Judy Palmer, Roan Mountain, Johnny and Mary Palmer, Eddie Dean and Peggy Palmer and Charles and Linda Palmer, all of Elizabethton; four sisters, Junie Winter, Roan Mountain, Edelle McClain and Florence Miller, both of Elizabethton, and Della Mae Turbyfield, Cranberry, N.C.; and two brothers, Gus Palmer, Elizabethton, and Onalee Johnson, Heaton, N.C. Fifteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.

PALMER -- Funeral services for William B. Palmer, 84, 175 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. A.G. Wagner, Rev. Jerry Honeycutt and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Jerry and Patty Honeycutt and Greg and Tammy Ruston. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Johnson Roan View Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Rodney Payne, Jeff Powell, Jerome Powell, Jerald Powell, Jonathan Palmer, Timmy Palmer and John Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Blaine Tipton, Joe Sheets, Carl Lilly, Limmie Estep, the staff of the Skilled Unit of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, members of the Carter County Rescue Squad and friends from Valley View 7-11 in Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 173 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, any time.
