- Junie Winters, age 80, of 183 Willard Perkins Rd., Roan Mountain, died Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, N.C., following a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Bertha Oaks Palmer.
Mrs. Winters was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Winters; one sister, Edell McClain; brothers, Bruce Palmer and Jim Palmer, and Gus Palmer; half- brothers, Ona Lee Johnson, Lawrence Palmer, and Gus Palmer.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Connie Winters, Roan Mountain, and Allen Winters, Spruce Pine, N.C.; two sisters, Florence Miller, Roan Mountain, and Della Mae Turbyfield, Cranberry, N.C.; one grandson, Brandon Winters, Roan Mountain; four granddaughters, Heather Perry, Roan Mountain; Hollie Uthlaut, Sierra Vista, Arizona; Kimberly Winters and Jennifer Winters, both of Roan Mountain, and two great grandchildren, Alexis and Logan Winters. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Junie Winters will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003 in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Keith Guinn officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Perkins Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, or other times at the residence of the son, Bobby Winters, 175 Perkins Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, at any time.
