- Ella Mae Owens, age 82, of Cherryville, North Carolina and formerly of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, April 03, 2018 at the CaroMont Regional Medical Center. She was born on May 30, 1935 to the late Emmett and Sofie Morefield. In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband Jess Owens, granddaughter, Jessica Tester and several sisters and brothers.
Ella loved to color, sing, listen to the radio and watch the Andy Griffith show and Golden Girls. Prior to her declining health, she loved to cook and would make wonderful meals for her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memories include daughters; Linda Hayworth and husband Darrell, Judy Dunn, and Vickie Courtner and husband Jack; sons, Ronnie Owens, Donnie Owens, and Jessie 'Jim' Owens and wife Melissa; sister, Roxie Morefield; brothers: Burl Morefield and Emmett ; 'June' Morefield; 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Steele officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus, VA. Pallbearers will be Danny Arnold, Jessie Bays, David Bays, Nathan Owens, Steve Arnold and Doug Puckett.
