- Tull T. Oaks, Sr., 93, of Roan Mountain, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness. He was the son of the late N.S. and Ethel Greer Oaks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandson, Samuel Blake Hensley and two brothers and seven sisters.
Mr. Oaks was a farmer and a former employee of J's Market. He was a faithful member and deacon of High Point Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and loved his grandchildren. Mr. Oaks was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 101st Airborne division, where he received the Purple Heart for his service at the Normandy Invasion.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Mary Ruth Elliott Oaks, of the home; three sons, Ronald Oaks and wife Pat, Wadesbroro, NC; Garry Oaks and wife Regina, Roan Mountain; Rev. Tull Oaks, Jr. and wife Carol, Roan Mountain; five grandchildren, Clayton Oaks, Charlotte, NC; Dayton Oaks and wife Stacie, Charlotte, NC; Melanie Adams and husband Herbie, Mountain City; Lori Kemp and husband Fred, Jonesborough; and Brandy Hensley and husband Chris, Jonesborough; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Nola Freeman, Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Oaks will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, TN, with Rev. Jim Storie and Rev. Tull Oaks, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM -2:00 PM, in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service or at the residence at anytime. Music will be provided by Mr. Oak's great grand daughters, Hannah and Abigail Arnett and Rev. Jerry McCoury.
The graveside service will follow in the Oaks Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, grand sons-in-law, and Charles Harrison
