- Mrs. Nellie R. Broyles, 74, Rt. 3, Elizabethton, died at her residence at 12:30 p.m. Monday of an apparent heart attack.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Edna Holloway McGhee and was a member of the Fish Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Comer Broyles; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Norma) Sheffield of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Larry (Edith) Scalf of Watauga; eight sons, Fred, Robert, Floyd, Dewey, Raymond, Haskel, Conley and Preston Broyles, all of Elizabethton; and Beryl Broyles, Abingdon, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Crabtree of Hampton, and Mrs. Robert (Rose) Oliver of Elizabethton. Sixteen grandchildren, Terry, David, Tim, Diane, Regina, Teresa, Sheila, Haskel Wayne, Kelly and Kristi Broyles, Sara Sheffield, Donna Merritt, Allen, Keith, Chris and Cindy Scalf, also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earl Campbell and Rev. Hubert Greene officiating. Interment will be in the Crumley Cemetery, Rt. 3, Bluff City.
Mrs. Gertrude Hammond, soloist, will be in charge of the music. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. E. T. Pearson, Bob Reynolds, Jerome Daugherty and the Men's Class of Harmony Baptist Church.
