- Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elizabeth Stout, passed away early Tuesday morning January 2, 2018 after a brief illness.
Born in Mountain City, Tennessee on October 29, 1933, Elizabeth was raised by her loving grandparents, John and Nora Phillippi.
In addition to her grandparents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna Kate Adams Phillippi, sister, Peggy Phillippi Poteat and brother-in-law, Bill Stout.
She married Blaine Stout on June 17, 1952. After a four year stint in the Air Force by Blaine, the couple returned from England and settled in Boone, North Carolina to raise their three sons. Once the boys were in school, Elizabeth returned to school and became a licensed nurse and began work as a surgical nurse at Watauga County Hospital for 28 years.
After retirement, the couple settled back in Mountain City where Elizabeth became involved with the Garden Club, Red Hat Society, Rotary Club, Heritage Hall and her beloved Frist Baptist Church. There, she sang in the choir and was active in her Sunday School Class, WOM and the Bereavement Committee.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion and servanthood to her family and community. Anyone who knew her was touched by her kindness and sweetness.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 65 years, Blaine Stout; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Debbie Stout of Boone, NC, Donald and Patricia Stout of Mars Hill, NC and Steven and Debbie Stout of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren: Daniel Stout, Sarah Block and husband David, Kelsey Condon and husband Jack, Kristen Stout, Kimberly Stout, Michael Stout, Joseph Stout and wife Jenny; great-grandchildren: Colette and Henry Block; sister, Lorraine Westrick and husband Dick; brother, Ralph Phillippi and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Brenda Stout; many, many special friends and neighbors and her special four legged friend, her cat, Tigger.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Mountain City. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Campbell officiating. Special music will be provided by Pastor Campbell and the church choir. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Jordan, Todd Grayson, Jim Vincill, Danny Cunningham, Glenn Parson, and Bob Eller. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Jordan, John Payne, Pat Greene and her Fidelas Sunday School Class and all of her church family.
