- Carl Herman Hicks, 76 of Elk Park died Friday, April 1, 2005 at his residence. Son of the late Floyd Conley and Sadie White Hicks he was retired from the town of Beech Mtn. and a member of the Buck Mountain Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers Fred, Frank and Clay Hicks and one sister Juanita Hicks. Survivors include his wife Louella Johnson Hicks of the home, daughters Janice Marie and husband Ronnie Tipton of Spruce Pine, Kathy Diane and husband Ricky Sparks of Spruce Pine and Tammy and husband Roger Phillips of Wilkesboro sons, Wayne and wife Mae Hicks of Erwin, David Allen and wife Cindy Hicks of Morganton and Carl Jeffery Hicks of Cranberry, one brother Eugene Hicks of Jonesboro, TN, sisters Minnie Belle Blankenship, Edith Shelton and Shirley Tyree all of Johnson City, TN. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hicks will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday, April 4 from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Revs. David Orders and Phil Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Gwyn Cemetery.
