J. F. Greer, 83, died Tuesday, June 26 at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital in Louisville after a short illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. William Arnold in charge. Burial was in the Salem Church Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Doyle Hiestand, Thomas Bloyd, George Arvin, E. H. Melson, Hollis Bugg, and Dempsey Kerr. Mr. Greer, son of the late James Greer and Mrs. Olson Greer, was born in Hemlock, North Carolina, March 1, 1873.
He professed faith in Christ at an early age in life and was a member of the Big Laural Baptist Church in North Carolina.
He united in marriage to Miss Katherine Eggers fifty seven years ago, she preceded him in death August 27, 1951.
To this union six sons and five daughters were born. Survivors include: Mr. Jess Greer of Route 4; Mr. Roby Greer of Fairfax, Virginia; Mrs. David Garnett, Mrs. Alice Bottoms, Mrs. Thomas Kerr, all of Taylor County; Mrs. Karl Fleming of Dayton, Ohio.
Besides the children, Mr. Greer is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Lena Osburn of North Carolina; Mrs. James Eggers of Campbellsville; Tom Greer and Sam Greer of Oxford, Pennsylvania; Larkin Greer of Grason, North Carolina; 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
