- TALBOTT - Chuck Hawk, age 80, of Talbott, TN., passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System following a long struggle with Myleodysplastic Syndrome.
He was born in Piney Flats, TN., March 22, 1938. Chuck was raised in Johnson City, TN. After graduating from Science Hill High School, he entered the United States Army and served 30 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4, army Aviation Branch. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, tours in Korea and Germany, 12 years in the Washington, D.C. area as well as numerous other stateside bases. Returning to his native Tennessee in 1987, he began employment at Wallace Hardware in Morristown, both in the sales department and as a pilot. As he completed his years there, he found much reward in overseeing the restoration of some of the antique vehicles owned by Mr. Wallace. Chuck also enjoyed working on and entering his MG Midget in British Car Shows. He was a long-time member of Jefferson City Christian Church and loved his Agape Sunday School Class. The family is grateful for the excellent care given to him by Tennessee Cancer Specialists, Morristown-Hamblen Hospital, Life Care and Amedisys Home Health. He was preceded in death by his parents, Molly and L.D. Hawk; son, Brent Hawk; brothers George Hawk and Fleenor Hawk; sisters, Dorothy Cullop, Edith Thomas, Mildred Keys, and Jo Ann Shina; He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Susan Overman Hawk; son, Kevin Hawk; several nieces, nephews, and other special family..
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, June 22, 2018 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm on Friday with Pastor Bob Emmert officiating. Family and friends will meet for an 11 am Military Graveside Service on Saturday, June 23, at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City.
