- BLOUNTVILLE - Sidney Ralph Yates, 92, of Blountville, TN, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Miles and Rose Thomas Yates; sisters, Gertrude McLamb, Winifred Counts, Nina Cashwell, Ida Faye Gibson, Violet Irvin, Infant brother, Harold Hassell.
First and foremost Sid was a Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Sid was a veteran of the United States Navy, he was detached with the 5th and 6th Marine Divisions during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bluff City. He was a tool and die maker/machinist at Raytheon, Sperry and retired from Univac in Bristol, TN. Sid was self-employed the remaining years of his life. He loved the classical guitar, boating and metal-working. He also enjoyed working around his home, fabricating accessories for lawn tractor and other equipment.
Sid is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Norma Davis Yates; daughter, Pamela Cobham of Jonesborough, TN; son, Keith B. Yates and wife Jan of Johnson City, TN; son, David C. Yates and wife Ann of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Allison Lansdorp of Johnson City, TN, Matthew Jennings of Jonesborough, TN, Keeley Chinn and husband Robbie of Golden, CO, Kristopher Yates of Charleston, SC, Erin Evans of Johnson City, TN, and Kirstie Brown of Knoxville, TN; great granddaughter Mary Emma Evans; sister, Saundra Stone of Dania Beach, Florida; brothers-in law, James Stone, Darrell Davis and wife Jenny, Jim Deel, and Jim Counts and wife Marie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 6:45 PM at First Baptist Church of Bluff City, TN. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Mike Pope officiating. The committal and interment will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:45 AM. Everyone will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bristol Regional Hospital, The Community Living Center at Mountain Home, TN for their care of Sid.
