- Lewis McElyea Jr., age 71, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 14, 1947 to the late William 'Bill Berry McElyea and Rosa Virginia Swift McElyea. In addition to his parents Lewis was preceded in death by his sisters: Mary Ann McElyea and Bonnie Louise McElyea; brother, John McElyea; special sister-in-law, Ann Guy and her husband Burl.
He was a member of Ackerson Creek Christian Church.
Lewis worked in factories most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved fishing.
Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 48 years, Mina Sue 'Lou' McElyea; son and daughter-in-law, Craig Lewis McElyea and wife Chrissy; his pride and joy; his grandchildren, Alyssa Marie McElyea and Hunter McElyea, whom he loved dearly; brother Jack McElyea and wife Glenda; special niece, Melissa 'Missy' Taylor and her husband Bobby; sister-in-law, June Stanley; brothers-in-law: Shot Dickens and Ira Dickens and wife Lousie; special friend and nurse, Amy Dickens; many more special nieces, nephews and cousins; his Ole Pal Lolly.
Graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Dickens Family Cemetery (Redbrush Road) with Pastors Gary Bowman and Shannon Courtner officiating. Pallbearers will be Craig McElyea, Bobby Taylor, Wayne Guy, Jeff Guy, Kenneth Dickens, Bill McElyea, Tony McElyea, Johnny Dickens, Eddie Dickens, David Dickens and Ronnie Dickens. Honorary pallbearers are Shot Dickens, Ira Dickens, Dr. Donald Walters and Staff, Dr. Kahn and Nurse Carrie.
