- C. Brooks Garland, 85, entered into his heavenly home on March 26, 2018 at his home.
His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout his life and ultimately gave him peace.
Mr. Garland was born on November 29, 1932 in Mitchell County, NC to his parents, Charles W. and Mae Forbes Garland. He married Alma Jean Malone on August 6, 1955. The Garlands lived in Jonesborough, TN where they founded and operated Garland Hardwoods, Inc. He retired in 1994 and dedicated his remaining years to fishing, traveling, and enjoying time with his family. Brooks was an active member of McCarty Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman, a dominos and rook fanatic, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Garland is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean; two children, Tony Garland and wife Fonda, and Donna Swartwout and husband Eric. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Brooke Silcox and wife Lauren, Courtney Miller and husband Mitch, and Drew Garland and wife Alison. Brooks was blessed with three great grandchildren, Maddie and Brooks Garland and Samuel Miller. Brooks is survived by his sisters Kathleen Garland and Helen Woody. He is proceeded in death by both parents and three sisters, Marybelle Gouge, Charlene Gouge, and Bobbie Garland.
The family will gather to receive friends on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5:00PM until a celebration of Mr. Garland's life beginning at 7:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City with Rev. Ira Cunningham officiating. A committal and interment will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 AM. Active pallbearers will be Brooke Silcox, Drew Garland, Mitch Miller, Eric Swartwout, Doug Garland, and Jimmy Gouge. Bruce Garland, Bradley Gouge, all his nephews will act as an honorary pallbearer.
