- JOHNSON CITY - Bobby Joe Carroll, 80, Johnson City passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a native of Piney Flats and was a son of the late Charles and Nell Tester Carroll. Bobby had worked as a mechanic for many years at Junction Shell. He loved old westerns, especially “Shane”. Bobby loved Cheetos, cokes, walking and going for rides. He sang bass in The Way of the Cross Quartet for many years. Bobby had a contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes. He loved joking and playing. He never met a stranger and could always brighten up anyone’s day. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Naomi Stines Carroll in 1996; brothers and sisters, Sylva Jean Carroll, Eusaw, James, Lynn and Carson Carroll, Beulah Haines and Betty Garland.
Survivors include his children, Darlene Carroll Holbrook of Limestone, Jeffrey Carroll and wife, Julie of Johnson City, Steven Carroll of Johnson City, Lisa Wineland Hicks and husband, Mark of Hampton and Gary Carroll and wife, Tawana of Johnson City; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Carroll of California and John Carroll of Rogersville; two sisters, Ruby Davis of Georgia and Kay Arnold of Oak Ridge; his cat “Gizzie”; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Bobby will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue with Rev. J.T. Prater and Rev. Dan Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service hour. Burial will follow in Edgefield Cemetery, Piney Flats. Pallbearers will be Dustin and Dylan Carroll, Kyle Greenwell, Johnny Carter, Robby Casey, and Hugh “Wishbone” Scalf.
