- Charlie Oliver, age 78, of Route 5, Elizabethton, died in King's Mountain Convalescent Home, Bristol, VA., Wednesday evening, following an illness of five months. He was formerly a guard at the State Penitentiary, Petros, Tenn., a magistrate and deputy Sheriff in Carter County for 16 years, also Clerk and Master for the County. He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. A Native and live long resident of this county, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Bowers Oliver in 1940. Survivors include three daughters, Miss Grace Oliver, 418 N. Main Street, Elizabethton; Mrs. Sophia Hardin, Route 5, Elizabethton; and Mrs. Ama White, 110 S. Pine Street, Elizabethton; one son, Albert E. Oliver, 112 W. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, on great great grandchild also survives. Tetrick Funeral Home in charge.
Oliver - Funeral service for Charlie Oliver will be help 2 p.m. Sunday from the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. W.W. Ward and Rev. R.G. Blackburn. The body will remain in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and will be taken to the church at noon Sunday. Active pallbearers will be Paul Hillman, Eston Bowers, Howard Bowers, Mike Nave, Robert Williams, Tyler Williams, Clyde Williams, and Wiley Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be George Wilson, Lynn Williams, Everett Bowers, Earl Morrell, Delmar Williams, Tom Williams, Jim Elliott, Lloyd Perry, Ernest Brumitt, Jim Deal, Abe Roberson, Tom Nave, Doc Nave, John Nave, Starling Hodge. Flower bearers will be friends. Interment will be at Wilson Cemetery.
