- Mrs. Edna "Louise" Cordell, 86, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Friday, February 9, 2018. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she loved all her friends at the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home as much as they all loved her.
A native of Roan Mountain, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Ben and Florence Julian Ashley. Mrs. Cordell was a member of Upper Shell Creek Christian Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved playing bingo, gardening and growing flowers, crafts and puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Marshall T. Cordell; a great-grandson, Kasey Hicks; two brothers, James Ashley and Tommy Ashley; two infant brothers, Bobby Jack Ashley and Billy Joe Ashley; and a dear friend, Ester Lester.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Ken Cordell and wife Vivian, Roan Mountain; daughters, Patricia Glenn and husband John, Marion, N.C., Karen Carpenter and husband Charles, Lansing, N.C., Sharon Jackson and husband Steve, Johnson City, and Heather Porch and husband J.R., Foscoe, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers, J.S. Ashley, Roan Mountain, Gene Ashley, Roan Mountain, Norman Ashley, Elizabethton, Roger Ashley, Roan Mountain, and Chuck Ashley, Roan Mountain; and a brother-in-law, Larry Miller, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Edna "Louise" Cordell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 12, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the service in the Johnson Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bret Hicks, Brody Shell, Luke Cordell, Cory Hicks, Dalton Porch and Chase Benett.
