- Joe Minton Taylor, 90, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert and Lizzie Grindstaff Taylor.
Joe served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a retired supervisor in the Spinning Unit at North American Rayon Corporation where he had worked for 42 years.
Joe was the oldest member of Big Springs Church of Christ. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Blaine D., Ira, John R., Howard M., Hobart, Fred, Paul W. and Orvil J. Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ivade Morris Taylor; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Larry Jeffers, Hampton, and Debbie and David Oaks, Elizabethton; a son, Randy Taylor of West Virginia; one grandson, Austin Oaks; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Jackie Taylor, Lillian Pierce and June Taylor.
Funeral services for Joe Minton Taylor were conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield, minister, officiating. Music was provided by Mr. Larry Jeffers. The graveside service and interment was at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were Mike McKinney, Jimmy Taylor, Bill Taylor, Keith Burleson, Austin Oaks, Tyler Higgins, Jacob Gouge and James Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Burleson, Lynn Taylor, Eddie Taylor, Robert Taylor, Danny Oaks, Tony Oaks, Justin Taylor, Larry Grindstaff, Brian Burleson, Randy Goswell and members of Big Springs Church of Christ.
