- ORLANDO, FL (Formerly of Elizabethton) - Norman Eugene Smith, 91, formally of Elizabethton, Tennessee, husband of Clara Estep Smith, died at his home in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, 25 October 2017. He attended Elizabethton City schools, East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee at Knoxville earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and University of Central Florida in Orlando where he was working on a MS in Computer Science Engineering. Norman retired from Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin).
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara; daughters Vickie Phelps, Elaine Smith, and Jeanne Smith; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his siblings James L. Smith Jr. of Memphis, David S. Smith of Knoxville, and Earnestine Baker of Johnson City. He was preceded in death by parents, James Lamar Smith and Rowena Matherly Smith and infant brother David Grant Smith.
Norman will be buried at Mountain Home Veteran's Cemetery on Friday, 23 March 2018 at 1:45 pm.
