- ELIZABETHTON - Wanda Lou Ward Sparks, 81, Elizabethton, passed away, peacefully Saturday, March 31, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Honard & Mary Sue Patton Ward. Mrs. Sparks was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, and East Tennessee State College. She taught at T.A. Dugger Junior High School for 28 years where she was the Home Economics Teacher. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Her Hobbies were her family, scrap booking, sewing, and working in her flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Carol Bradley and a brother: Ralph Ward.
Survivors include the light of her life, husband of 57 years: Charles Sparks. Three Daughters: Regina Gouge, Leanna Morgan and Dara Murray & husband Glenn, all of Elizabethton. Her very special granddaughter: Brianne Lyons & husband David, Johnson City. Her sister: Betty Shelnutt, Daytona Beach, Florida, her brother: Raymond Ward & wife Pam, Elizabethton, and many nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Darrin Smith officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the Patton-Simmons Cemetery. Music will be provided by Jamie Schaff. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and her care givers: Kevin Whitehead and Carolyn Jackson.
