- Remus was the son of William Douglas Hass and Rebecca Lucinda Jones of Cherokee County, North Carolina. He was married to Susie Thomas, daughter of Darius and Hester Thomas.
Some of their children were Zoe, Willie (died as an infant) Pearl, Pauline, Myrtle, Ruby, John B., Dorothy, Weston, Edwin and Charles.
Remus drew a pension for his service in 1898 during the War with Spain.
