- Clarence W. Whitehead, 71, 608 Main Street, Hampton, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Garfield and Ethel Lacey Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a son, Clarence W. Whitehead Jr., three brothers, Jack Whitehead, J.D. Whitehead and Eugene Whitehead, and a sister, Iva Lee Whitehead.
Mr. Whitehead was of the Baptist faith and was owner/operator of Whitehead Greenhouse and a retired employee of Jarl Extrusions. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Carden Whitehead, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Gail and Leslie McCracken, Chuckey, and Wanda and Charles Gentry, Elizabethton; a son, Steven Douglas Whitehead, Johnson City; and three grandchildren, Andrew Daniel Whitehead, Elizabethton, Christina "C.C." McCracken and John Joseph "J.J." McCracken, both of Chuckey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Clarence W. Whitehead, 71, 608 Main Street, Hampton, who died Thursday, April 4, 2002, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Holly officiating. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors to be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Butch Johnson, Charles Gentry, Leslie McCracken, Andrew Whitehead, Dave Blackwell, Johnny Morgan and Otis Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.
