- Max Richard Campbell, 73, Long Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Carter County, he was a son of the late John B. and Mattie Range Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, where he was a member of the 1950 basketball team that won the state championship under Coach John Treadway.
He was a graduate of Tennessee Polytechnical Institute, Cookeville, where he received a B.S. degree in agriculture science. Mr. Campbell was a retired manager of the ETSU Post Office.
He was an officer in the 102nd Airborne
Division during the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of the Big Spring Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Walter Harvey; and three brothers, Vane, Lewis and Selba Campbell.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Clay Bailey and Mr. Bob Allen, ministers,officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
