Walter L. Neatherly. . .
Walter L. Neatherly, age 82 of Neva, died Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the home of a son, James R. Neatherly, Church Hill, after a short illness. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Daniel and Sarah Fine Neatherly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Neatherly, Aug. 1962. He was a retired employee of Southern Railway, having worked there more than 50 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Walter E. Neatherly, Chattanooga and James R. Neatherly, Church Hill; five daughters, Mrs. Christine Morefield, Neva, Mrs. Mable Gentry, Mountain City, Mrs. Marjorie Stump, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Mary Barker, Bristol, Tenn. and Mrs. Peggy Fleenor, Bristol, Va.; two brothers, Claude Neatherly, Cokeville, Wyo., and John Neatherly, Neva; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Stone, Robbinsville, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ernest Caarrier[sic] and Rev. Tom Worley officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Pallbearers were R.L. Wilson; Roy Bartlett, Clate Tester, Robert Grindstaff, Dale Vaught and Earl Shull. Flower bearers were the ladies of the church and neighbors.
